Abortion Pill

Medical or non-surgical abortion uses RU486 and other types of abortion pills to terminate an early pregnancy. This method of abortion is used for women who are within 30-49 days of their last menstrual period. It can involve up to 3 office visits and may require a surgical procedure if the medical abortion is incomplete.

Surgical Abortion

If you’re not a candidate for a medical abortion, or if the medical abortion doesn’t work, you would need a surgical abortion. The most common types of surgical abortion performed during the first trimester are: manual vacuum aspiration, dilation & curettage, dilation & evacuation.

Morning After Pill

The Morning After Pill (also known as Plan B, Plan B One Step or Ella) is not the same as RU486. The Morning After Pill is emergency contraception and is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy. The Morning After Pill works by delaying ovulation, interfering with fertilization and/or preventing implantation. If you have any questions about the Morning After Pill, contact Lakes Life Care Center.

Is Abortion Painful?
